The WFPA/ WVFA has an open and on going recruitment process. A volunteer application can be obtained from the web-site or at the Authority office at 810 E street Williams CA.
Applicants go through a screening process and must attend two training sessions, one dinner meeting and meet with the command staff before be recommended to the Membership Committee. Membership committee will then take applicants name to the WVFA for a vote of the membership. A positive vote will allow the applicant to become a Probationary member for a two year period. After completing an entry level physical, a probationary firefighter will start training. Probationary firefighters are required to meet the level of Firefighter I, CPR, Emergency Medical First Responder and Firefighters Class C drivers license within their two year probationary period. This is between 200 and 400 hrs in the first two years.
At the two year anniversary probationary firefighters are voted on again by the membership.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be 18 years or older
- Live within the district
- Be in good physical condition
- Maintain a valid CA driver license
- No criminal record
- Willing to spend many hours dedicated to the department
